Government Services Group has been hired by the City of Marathon through the competitive bid process to provide Grant Writing and Administration Services.
GSG will prepare grant packages for multiple city projects, review compliance with the terms and requirements of all applicable grants, and administer the grants. In addition, GSG will serve as the City’s representative with respect to the preparation, review and administration of City grants.
Government Services Group has been hired by Jefferson County through the competitive bid process to provide SHIP Grant/Loan Program Management and Project Delivery Services.
The administration services requested for SHIP and other public program funds are described as: housing rehabilitation activities, as well as public works and development facilities, that provide community and economic development within the County and primarily benefit low-to-moderate income citizens of the County. Specific needs include, housing rehabilitation, drinking water, sanitary sewer, stormwater facilities, street and access improvements, and other public service facilities and capital facility improvements needed for community and economic development.
Active in Florida Communities is a year-round undertaking by Government Services Group (GSG) to encourage community initiatives of cities and counties in Florida. On Saturday March 7 at 8 A.M. GSG participated in the Get Fit for FIT 5K run hosted by The Silver Law Firm, P.A. The event benefited the Families In Transition organization, a program of The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools. The organization was established to serve the basic and educational needs of homeless students in Seminole County. Through community support and fundraisers, Families In Transition has helped to reduce the number of homeless children in Seminole County by 11.5%. As participants, GSG is proud to help in addressing the need for clothing, school supplies, food, hygiene items, emergency assistance, and other necessities of homeless students in Seminole County Public Schools. Government Services Group is partnering with engineering firm, Wade Trim to assist the City of Marathon with the preparation of Design Criteria Packages for multiple city utility improvement projects. Government Services Group will provide Grant Management services throughout the project.

Government Services Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Glenn Forrest to the position of Operations Manager for the Municipal Services Division. Mr. Forrest is a Registered Professional Engineer in Florida. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and both Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Master in Public Administration (M.P.A.) from the University of Central Florida. Prior to joining GSG in 2013, Mr. Forrest held a variety of progressively responsible utility management positions in the public and private sectors, including City Engineer and Public Works Director for the City of Altamonte Springs and Senior Professional Engineer with the St. Johns River Water Management District. At GSG, in his previous position as the MacDill Utility Manager, Mr. Forrest did an outstanding job overseeing the operations and management, R&R program and all design-build capital work of our contract forces. In his new position, Mr. Forrest will help to ensure our client, the Department of Defense, of oversight quality continuity and continue meeting their critical mission requirements.
Government Services Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Michael Wilson to the position of MacDill Utility Manager. Mr. Wilson has over 26 years of experience in private and government consulting and construction. Mr. Wilson has served as Government Services Group’s first Project Manager assigned to the MacDill Air Force Base Utility contract since its inception in July of 2010. He has been with GSG since March of 2009 and was our first staff member assigned to help manage the newly acquired Pasco Aloha systems. Mr. Wilson oversaw the successful completion of Aloha water quality improvement projects, including construction of the award-winning Mitchell Water Treatment Plant. With the FGUA’s purchase of the Aqua Utilities of Florida systems in 2012, he was elevated to the West Area Manager position. GSG has every confidence that Mr. Wilson will reach and exceed all expectations and requirements of this position.
Government Services Group welcomes Michael Sweet to the Municipal Services Division as Area Manager for the West Region. Mr. Sweet has 40 years of experience in a variety of engineering and management positions involving utilities both in the public and private sectors, including Director of Utilities Engineer for Pinellas County Utilities. He is a Florida Registered Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Notre Dame University.
Government Services Group is hired by the City of Lake Wales to provide professional services and specialized assistance to the City of Lake Wales and its staff with the update/development of a fire services special assessment program.
The objective of this project is to update/develop special assessments based on public policy established by the City within the constraints of readily available data and legal precedent. To fulfill this objective, we will provide the following:
- Specialized services that assist the City in developing a legally defensible method of apportioning the assessments
- An Assessment Report which includes the assessment cost calculations and the description of the apportionment methodology
- Billing algorithms necessary to calculate the fire services assessments pursuant to the proposed methodology
- The final fire assessment rates
Cities, counties, towns–governmental agencies extend opportunities daily for private firms to compete within the competitive bidding process. ‘Request for Proposals, Request for Information or Request for Qualifications’ are written with high hopes and specific goals in mind. Often times, firms respond to these opportunities with all the necessary work experience to meet “Scope of Work” requirements.

Having participated in the Tallahassee Color Run and soon to participate in the GO Pink 5K, Tallahassee and the 5K Gingerbread Run, Kissimmee, GSG’s campaign mission to support community events around the State is well underway.

Wakulla County Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) extended GSG’s contract for another year.
Government Services Group serves as Administrator for the Housing Choice Voucher program (formally known as Section 8). The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides assistance for low-income families in the private rental market through the Housing Rental Assistance Program.
